Mirror Steel Water Drops
Seamless, fluid water-drop sculptures formed from marine-grade AISI 316L stainless steel over 5-axis CNC milled tooling and polished to a liquid Super-Mirror #8 finish.

Project Goal
Organic droplet geometries have zero flat planes—every square centimeter curves simultaneously in two axes. Even a 0.2 mm surface irregularity or visible TIG weld line ruins the illusion of a suspended liquid mercury drop.
01.B — How We Made It
How We Made It
We first 5-axis CNC milled high-density tooling bucks from the 3D digital CAD model to serve as precision forming dies. Marine-grade AISI 316L stainless steel petals were English-wheeled and hydro-formed over the bucks, purged-TIG welded onto an internal stainless ring frame, planished, and polished through 12 stages to an optical Super-Mirror #8 reflection.
